In January or February (08), my friend
Mike Salva asked me if I wanted to
participate in a project that he was offered.
One of the CEO bigwigs at Adobe had
come across Mike's cartoon feature
"Max The Hero" and was interested in hiring someone to produce some
introductory 'bumpers' for a conference in April. He commissioned Mike to
do 3 pieces: one for each day of the conference. His idea, according to Mike,
was to do something broadly funny but simple- maybe get a few public domain
movie clips form some classic monster movies and overdub some Adobe-related
dialogue to them.
Mike & I met for a few lunches and kicked around some funny ideas. Mike, being
an amateur animator, wanted one of the three pieces to be a full cartoon. He
found out that Night of The Living Dead and Little Shop Of Horrors were both
public-domain, and I watched them with the sound turned off and came up with a
few goofy ideas for bits, along with Mike.
Sean Parrott got involved when
I invited him to lend his voice to the proceedings. We recorded some goofy
banter into Mike's magical voice-and-soul-capturing device for about an hour and
Mike produced the results one-by-one over the course of a few weeks.
The Night
Of The Living Dead bit opened the conference. The guy in the end who is gnawing
on a leg is Russell Brown himself.
The
second clip of the conference was "Photoshop
Of Horrors":
This is
the animated piece Mike wrote and made for the final day. Sean and I had no idea
what the characters would end up looking like or what Mike would be doing with
the dialogue. I think it's pretty damn funny.
Mike and I were richly rewarded with free Adobe Software for our efforts. Sean
is owed a very lavish dinner.
